Taping, Mudding, and Sanding
Drywall (also known as plasterboard, wallboard, gypsum panel, sheet rock, or gypsum board) is a panel made of calcium sulfate dihydrate (gypsum), with or without additives, typically extruded between thick sheets of facer and backer paper, utilized in the construction of interior walls and ceilings. The plaster is mixed with fiber, plasticizer, foaming agent, and various additives that can decrease mildew, increase fire resistance, and lower water absorption.
Drywall installation is a crucial step in constructing and finishing interior spaces, providing a smooth, durable surface for walls and ceilings. Drywall installation, also known as hanging drywall, is the process of attaching large sheets of gypsum board (drywall) to the framing of walls and ceilings in a building. It is a common method for creating smooth interior surfaces ready for painting or any other finishing.

Taping, Mudding, and Sanding
The first step involves applying paper or fiberglass tape over the joints where two pieces of drywall meet. The tape helps to reinforce the joints and prevent cracks. After the tape is in place, drywall compound (also known as “mud”) is applied over the taped joints, screw or nail holes, and any other imperfections. Multiple layers of mud are often applied, with each layer being allowed to dry before the next is applied. The compound smooths out the surface and fills in any gaps.
Once the mud has dried, the surface is sanded to create a smooth, even finish. This step is crucial for preparing the drywall for painting or other finishing touches. Sanding removes any excess compound and ensures that the surface is flat and seamless. Together, these processes create a smooth, finished surface that is ready for painting or other wall treatments.
